Click Deactivate Downloads. Repeat steps 2-4 for all accounts with the same financial institution. Click the Settings gear again, then select Set up transaction download.   What connection type are you using for Amex? If you're using Quicken Connect, you should change it to Direct Connect which will likely resolve the error and make downloading better and faster all around.

  Thanks @RickO for your reply. It looks like I'm using Quicken Connect for AMEX, and all my other accounts except for my checking/savings. I haven't had a problem before. Is it recommended to switch all other accounts to direct connect as well?
  Also, is there an official description of what the error means?

  Hi RickO, I did attempt to change connection type, however it only went through the account set-up process and linked. This solved the problem with AMEX, but it is still on quicken connect. Did the same thing with my Citi Visa and was nota able to switch to direct connect either..

  Direct Connect is always preferable to Quicken Connect if your bank supports it. Here's why: Quicken Connect essentially logs into your bank's website overnight to retrieve transactions which it stores on it's servers. It then transmits them to you when you update. If anything changes on the bank's website, it is subject to failure. Also, transaction matching is often not as robust. Direct Connect, on the other hand, directly connects to your bank's servers without Quicken as the middle man. Here is the official description:
  Connection Methods (Quicken Connect is called Express Web Connect in this overview.)
  If your bank supports direct connect and doesn't charge you extra for it (Amex does not charge extra), then you should use Direct Connect.
  I don't have a list of error codes. You should be able to find something on it, though, if you search this site.

  Your message confuses me. First you say 'however, it only ..', but then you say 'this solved the problem with AMEX'. I can't tell if it's fixed or not.
  To change the connection type, open the account settings (menu Accounts > Settings). Click the button Change Connection Type. Then click the Options button to bring up the window where you can choose Direct Connect. If you didn't click the Options button, you would still be using Quicken Connect.
  If you click the Options button and the Direct Connect selection is grayed out, that means it's not supported by your bank. Both Amex and Citi Visa do support Direct Connect.

  The Download error (160) was fixed by simply going through the Change Connection Type dialogue (without selecting the change), and then linking the account. I had neglected to press the options button to see the other connection options..

  I am as well having the same issue but with all of my Wells Fargo accounts. All downloads since the 4.5.4 update have resulted in Download Errors. Repeated re-Setup does not work. Worked perfectly with 4.5.3.

  Can you change from Quicken Connect to Direct Connect for Wells Fargo. That will likely solve the issue.
