This post will contain spoilers for the entire main story of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, so I'd recommend finishing that before reading.

This won't be anything like Enel's 30 second Ophion killing build but rather a build that can comfortably take on higher level Unique Monsters and Superbosses (UMs above Level 99) without too much trouble.

Additionally, I intend to make all of this build completely feasible for anyone who has beaten the game, so that means:

-No DLC

-No RNG blades (with one exception)

-No NG+ exclusive content

This build is a framework. It is by no means the best build you can make, and I would recommend playing around with the blades used if you have better ones or ones you like more, and also using AUX Cores, Accessories, and Pouch Items, which I won't be going over here, since in a build like this these aspects are more suited to be decided by your playstyle.

With all that said, let's get right into it.

The Drivers

For this build, I would recommend for your party to consist of:

Position 1: Rex

Rex is the most versatile driver, and most suited to a Cavalier class (ATK and HLR blades). Because of this and Pneuma and Nia, two of his exclusive blades, being particularly powerful, especially when manually controlled, Rex most well suited to being the party leader.

Position 2: Mòrag

Mòrag is an exceptionally good evasion tank, making her essentially the Dunban of XC2, and she doesn't require you to play Tiger Tiger or get the DLC or start NG+ like Tora does to become viable.

Position 3: Zeke

Xc2

Zeke is this game's glass cannon, and he works especially well with Ether Cannon weapons, which are particularly powerful in full bursts. Through trial and error, I have concluded that with this build, having the drivers in this order will ensure that Zeke lands the full burst, optimising damage output.

The Blades

Rex:

Pyra/Mythra/Pneuma [Fire/Light/Any]

Nia [Water]

Pandoria [Lightning]

The Aegis is essentially a requirement in achieving as many elements as easily as possible, due to being the only feasible light blade in this build, having 2 base elements but the ability to easily fill a single gap in your elemental build, and just generally being a very viable blade.

Nia is the most viable healer blade feasible for this build, especially with her move 'Redemption', an exceptional party healing move that works well as a panic button if you're low on health.

To move Pandoria onto Rex, move her to any position other than Zeke's top position blade, then choose her as Rex. She has a Launch art, complimenting the Aegis's Topple art, and is a strong lightning elemental, complimenting a later blade in this build.

Mòrag

Brighid [Fire]

Aegaeon [Water]

Theory [Ice]

Rare Blades Xc2

Brighid and Aegaeon are both acquired by Mòrag through story progress, and are both highly viable in terms of abilities and elements, since Fire and Water are the most common, and Theory, especially when used with a Pentagon Chip, is a very viable evasion tank, and having Ice as an element opens up new Blade Combo routes.

Zeke

Herald (Lightning)

Best Blades Xc2

Sheba (Water)

T-elos (Dark)

Herald is the blade with the single highest damage output in the game, and both her Level 1 and Level 3 specials are ridiculously powerful in Chain Attacks, with her Full Burst being quite possible the most powerful, although due to critical hits it is hard to gauge which Full Burst is the actual most powerful. Furthermore, having a Lightning element on 2 drivers is very useful for Blade Combos.

Sheba, like Herald, is one of The Big 3 Ether Cannons, the third being KOS-MOS, and her Level 2 special being very powerful in Chain Attacks makes up for Herald's Level 2 being relatively underwhelming. Her element being Water establishes a through line, so all drivers have Water blades, increasing the ease with which you can pull off a lot of Blade Combos.

T-elos is a blade with arguably equal power to her counterpart, KOS-MOS, and while KOS-MOS is the rarest RNG blade, T-elos is the most common by far, and can only be unlocked after beating the final boss. (If you are in NG+ but aren't yet at the final boss, you can still unlock T-elos). Because of how easily obtained T-elos is, she is the exception to the 'No RNG blades' rule of this build.

The Strategy

The general strategy for reliably killing Unique Monsters in the postgame with this build is to:

1) Use Blade Combos, ending in different elements, to put 4 or 5 Elemental Orbs around the UM. Below are cheat sheets made by @ArchTalko on Twitter for the different possible Blade Combos and their Sealing effects.

2) Once this is done, and you have a full party guage and a golden Affinity between Rex and Pyra/Mythra, initiate Pneuma's Ascended Form (Hold R and press X)

3) Use this to add one more Elemental Orb of a different Element.

4) Initiate a Chain Attack, ensuring all Drivers are alive and Pneuma's Ascended Form is still active.

5) Continue the Chain Attack, and make sure that Herald bursts the 4th Elemental Orb, and 5th if that didn't initiate a Full Burst.

Xc2 Blade List

6) This ensures that Herald will perform the Full Burst, dealing incredibly high damage values, which should be enough to instantly kill the opponent.

So yeah that's the build! There are much better ones out there but this is just a competent build that can be made by anyone and stand up to superbosses.
